The Tim Tebow Ad Will Be 'Pro-Choice;' Child Killers Have Nothing to
Fear. 'Choose Life' is a 'Pro-Choice' Message; it Presumes it is
Ethically and Legally Legitimate to Choose Murder. We Want to Take the
'Choice' of Murder Away. -- Randall Terry

"The goal of the pro-life movement is the criminalization of murder
(abortion) from conception until birth; the Tebow ad will not address
this in any way."

WASHINGTON, Feb. 5 /Christian Newswire/ -- Randall Terry, founder of
Operation Rescue, makes the following statement:

"Many pro-lifers and advocates of child killing have been in a frenzy
over the Tim Tebow ad to run during the Super Bowl. Their joy and anger
are both misplaced.

"Here are my predictions: (I have not seen or read the ad; I will
happily eat my words.)

"The ad will be warm and fuzzy; Mrs. Tebow will talk on camera about how
her doctor advised her to abort her pregnancy because of health risks;
she will say something like 'I just knew I couldn't do it; I was going
to have this baby no matter what.' She will refer to prayer or her faith.

"While she's talking, there will be images of her son as a happy little
boy, maybe a teenager playing football in high school are in the
backyard, and then as a superstar for the Florida Gators - for sure with
him holding his Heisman Trophy.

"The ad will end with some catchy phrase like: 'life is a choice
everyone can live with,' or 'choose life for your baby.' The ad will
leave people wondering what other superstars might come if simply
allowed to live. Without question, the ad will use the word 'choice' or
'options' or 'alternatives.'

"Here's what it will NOT say: 'abortion is murder;' 'abortion is the
slaughter of innocent babies;' 'abortion must be made illegal from
conception until birth.' It will not even say something as accurate (and
inane) as: 'abortion kills an innocent human being.'

"Here's what it will NOT show: the tortured remains of dead babies; they
will not show women tormented by guilt, in self-destructive lifestyles;
they will not show an ultrasound of a moving unborn child in utero, and
call it a 'baby.' (I hope I'm wrong on that one!)

"In other words, it will be 'pro-choice;' child killers have little to
fear. And pro-lifers have little to rejoice about.

"'Choose life' is a 'pro-choice' message; it presumes it is ethically
and legally legitimate to choose murder. We want to take the 'choice' of
murder away.

"A 'pro-choice/pro-life' ad will do little to end legalized child
killing. We are not 'pro-choice/pro-life;' we believe abortion is
murder, and it must be criminalized in all 50 states from conception
until birth. That means we will ultimately outlaw all surgical child
killing, IUDs that kill new lives; and all chemical abortifacients --
such as the pill and the patch. Our mission is the full protection of
law for our fellow humans from conception till birth."

*Confirmation Hopes Fading for Dawn Johnsen, Radical Pro-Abort Obama Pick*

By Peter J. Smith

WASHINGTON, D.C., February 5, 2010 (LifeSiteNews.com
<http://www.lifesitenews.com/>) -- After one year of waiting, Dawn
Johnsen, Obama's radical pro-abortion nominee to head the Office of
Legal Counsel (OLC), has seen her chances for Senate confirmation
delayed once again. The Senate Judiciary Committee decided on Thursday
that they had run out of time to consider her selection and agreed to
postpone a vote to a later date.

In fact, the sun may be setting altogether on Johnsen's confirmation
hopes, as Senate Republicans have expressed their opposition, and the
seating of Massachusetts GOP Sen. Scott Brown brings the word
"filibuster" back into the GOP lexicon.

The Senate Judiciary Committee postponed the vote to next Thursday
citing time constraints, and moved Johnsen's nomination to the top of
the agenda for when they reconvene.

Johnsen's nomination moved out of the Senate Judiciary Committee in
March 2009, but the Senate failed to act on her nomination before
concluding its session on December 24. Obama again nominated Johnsen to
head the OLC on January 20, 2010.

But delay gives more time for pro-life advocates to rally political
pressure on senators to oppose the nomination through filibuster. The
arrival of Sen. Scott Brown (R-Mass.) to the Senate may be the 41st vote
that Republicans and Democratic Sen. Ben Nelson of Nebraska need to keep
her confirmation at bay. Brown describes himself as moderately
"pro-choice," while Johnsen has embraced legal opinions that put her on
the extreme edge even of the abortion movement.

Sen. Nelson predicted that "Dawn Johnsen's controversial nomination to
head the Office of Legal Counsel won't come up this year" according to
Roll Call, a newspaper covering Capitol Hill.

Sen. Dick Lugar (R-Ind.), normally a reliable pro-life vote in the
Senate, appears to be supporting Johnsen in large part because she comes
from his State of Indiana, where she teaches at the Indiana University's
Maurer School of Law. Sen. Sam Brownback (R-Kans.), also normally a
reliable pro-life vote in the Senate, took a similar position when he
actively championed the confirmation of radical pro-abortion Gov.
Kathleen Sebelius to the Department of Health and Human Services, since
she was from his home state of Kansas.

The weakest links in a GOP-filibuster would be the two liberal senators
from Maine, Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins, who have voted in the past
to end cloture and move nominations forward. However, amicable relations
between the "pro-choice" Senators and President Obama may have soured
over the health care fight, and his pick for the OLC may be even too
extreme for them to stomach.

Johnsen once suggested in an amicus brief submitted to the U.S. Supreme
Court that pro-life laws compel women to "involuntary servitude" and
anything less than unrestricted abortion on demand would be a violation
of the Thirteenth Amendment to the federal Constitution, which outlawed
slavery. Johnsen made that comment in footnote 23 of the brief she filed
in Webster v. Reproductive Health Services, 492 U.S. 490 (1989) (No.
88-605).

Elsewhere Obama's nominee stated that even modest abortion restrictions
"reduce pregnant women to no more than fetal containers."

Johnsen also described the idea of making abortion rare -- not just
"safe" and "legal" -- as "nonsensical."

She also accused pro-life activists of resorting to tactics not unlike
the "intimidation carried out by the Ku Klux Klan" and excoriated fellow
pro-abortion leaders for portraying "abortions as tragedies."

In a brief written on behalf of the American Constitution Society last
year, Johnsen advocated that social progressives circumvent the
legislative process in favor of judicial activism, stating that "the
progressive agenda should focus on the courts as the vehicles for
desired change."

Among the most extreme cases of Johnsen's legal advocacy for abortion
involved her crusade to strip the U.S. Catholic Church of tax-exempt
status over its pro-life activism. United States Catholic Conference v.
Abortion Rights Mobilization went to the Supreme Court, where the
Catholic bishops won their case. However the National Abortion Rights
Action League -- later redubbed NARAL Pro-Choice America -- rewarded
Johnsen for her efforts by hiring her to be their legal director, a
position she filled from 1989 -- 1993.

Johnsen also served as staff counsel for the American Civil Liberties
Union's Reproductive Freedom Project from 1987-1988. She also served in
President Bill Clinton's Justice Department from 1993-1998, including a
stint as Acting Assistant Attorney General leading the OLC.

Members of Congress are rallying opposition against Johnsen, citing her
extreme abortion positions. Rep. Chris Smith (R-N.J.), co-chairman of
the bipartisan Congressional Pro-Life Caucus told LifeSiteNews.com (LSN)
that "Johnsen is a radically pro-abortion nominee with a record that
demonstrates a cruel bias and an insidious discrimination against
babies" - a record he said disqualified her for the post.

In a second letter submitted to President Obama on his own behalf and
that of 62 fellow Congressmen, Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa) demanded that
President Obama withdraw Johnsen's nomination stating that her
nomination violated Obama's pledge to find "common ground" on the issue
of abortion. "She has condemned virtually every type of regulation of
abortion conceived by a legislature, no matter how mild the regulation
or how shocking the practice regulated, as unacceptable," the letter
<http://steveking.house.gov/index.cfm?FuseAction=Newsroom.PressReleases&ContentRecord_id=52b28a1c-19b9-b4b1-123f-a2236371ba00&Region_id=&Issue_id=>stated.

"Ms. Johnsen's record demonstrates that she is incapable of placing the
Rule of Law above her political philosophy or personal agenda. The
Office of Legal Counsel needs a leader that will respect the
Constitution and resist the temptation to substitute personal ideology
for sound legal reasoning."

*CCHD Scandal Picks Up Steam as Bishops React*
By Patrick B. Craine and John-Henry Westen

WASHINGTON, D.C., February 5, 2010 (LifeSiteNews.com) -- Various offices
of the U.S. Bishops Conference (USCCB) have reacted to the two new
reports issued by the Reform CCHD Now coalition (RCN) this week, but the
reactions, claims RCN, have not addressed the core message of their
reports.

While RCN has offered evidence that 31 CCHD grantees are partnered with
a pro-abortion and homosexualist group, the Center for Community (CCC),
and that two USCCB officials have served on the same group's board, the
reactions have focused primarily on defending the pro-life beliefs of
one of those officials - John Carr, who, as executive director of the
USCCB's Department of Justice, Peace, and Human Development, oversees
the Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD).

The report on Carr's involvement in CCC was received by some as
questioning Carr's personal pro-life convictions. However, RCN says that
the reports in question -- one from American Life League (ALL) and
another from the Bellarmine Veritas Ministry (BVM) -- specified that
they were not questioning Carr or any USCCB staffer's personal stance on
pro-life.

Immediately after the issuing of the reports Monday, a line supporting
CCC was quietly removed from the CCHD website. Not so quiet however was
the backlash against the perceived attack on Carr.

Tom Grenchik, the USCCB's national director for pro-life activities, in
a message which was sent on Tuesday to all the diocesan pro-life offices
said, "I am happy to report to you that John Carr is staunchly pro-life,
a partner in USCCB pro-life efforts and he worked diligently to keep
abortion out of the many recent health care reform efforts."

Priests for Life President Fr. Frank Pavone also stepped up in defense
of Carr, stating on his blog: "I have had many opportunities to talk to
and listen to John over the years, in public and in private, to read his
articles, and to discuss our common goal of seeing social justice and
peace applied to our neighbors in the womb."

While RCN coalition members said they were pleased to hear these
affirmations of Carr's pro-life stance, they also said they were
concerned with what they called "false" accusations from other officials
which, they said, led even bishops to misconstrue their actions and
intentions.

National CCHD director Ralph McCloud, Carr's subordinate, also responded
to the reports about his organization in an e-mail yesterday morning to
the nation's diocesan CCHD directors. McCloud referred to what he
called "very disturbing allegations that have been posted by many 'news'
sources lately regarding John Carr and his relationship to the Center
for Community Change."

"The attacks allege that John promotes abortion and homosexual agendas,"
said McLoud.

LifeSiteNews (LSN) attempted to contact Ralph McCloud, but did not hear
back by press time.

Michael Hichborn of RCN member ALL told LSN today that, "We never once
alleged that John Carr promotes abortion and homosexual agendas, and all
of our public commentary verifies this." Hitchborn added, "In fact, in
the initial report that I wrote, I specifically stated that we are not
questioning the pro-life convictions of John Carr or anyone he works with."

In Carr's response to the RCN reports, he reiterated his pro-life
convictions and accused RCN members of not contacting him prior to
releasing their reports, saying that "Neither the American Life League
nor the Bellarmine Institute contacted me, CCHD or the bishops'
conference before making these accusations."

But Hichborn claims that Carr's accusation is "false." Rob Gasper, head
of RCN member BVM said, "Carr has stated on multiple occasions that he
will not meet or discuss issues with either ALL or [Human Life
International]." Gasper added, "The information in the BVM report
should not have come as a surprise since it was primarily discussing
information released well over two months ago."

Bishop William Murphy, Chairman of the USCCB's Committee on Domestic
Justice and Human Development, and Bishop Roger Morin, Chairman of the
USCCB's CCHD Subcommittee, picked up on criticisms of the RCN reports
and forcefully condemned RCN members, one going so far as to suggest RCN
had engaged in dishonesty and calumny regarding Carr.

"I'm concerned about these attacks on John Carr and I know they are
false and I think they are even calumnious," said Bishop Murphy, in an
interview with Catholic News Service (CNS). "I am taking this to be a
very sad, sad commentary on the honesty of some people in these pressure
groups."

"Personally I think (the claims) are totally ridiculous," Bishop Morin
told CNS.

LSN contacted the Diocese of Rockville Center, Bishop Murphy's See, but
did not hear back by press time. The Diocese of Biloxi was unable to
answer questions about Bishop Morin's comments.

RCN told LSN that they hope to shift the focus back onto CCC and the
implicated CCHD grantees, and expressed disappointment that the CCHD and
USCCB staff are "skirting" the issue.

Gasper told LSN on Thursday that he "find[s] it telling that instead of
addressing the well documented evidence brought forward in both the ALL
and BVM reports, McCloud and Carr seem fixated on characterizing our
efforts as a personal attack on Carr's pro-life beliefs. Neither the
ALL or BVM reports question Carr on his pro-life convictions."

Gasper said that he was "disappointed" that the "salient points" in his
report have not yet been addressed yet. "Perhaps," he said, "both Carr
and McCloud's time and energy would be better spent screening some of
the organizations the USCCB cooperates with rather than responding to
accusations that were never made in the first place."

Responding to Bishop Murphy's charge of 'calumny', Hichborn reiterated
that they have not accused Carr of being pro-abortion or
pro-homosexual. "So unless the bishops can find fault in our report
about the Center for Community Change or the funding practices of the
CCHD, they would do well to avoid such hyperbole," he stated.

Dr. Deal Hudson of Catholic Advocate, another RCN member, told LSN that
"the reports were never intended to target John Carr or question his
pro-life credentials." Hudson added: "The intent was to present more
evidence that the grant making process at CCHD needs serious overhaul.
They were to underscore the need for the USCCB to rethink its
relationships to social service and community organizing institutions."

Catholic Advocate has called on the USCCB to suspend all grants from
CCHD until a complete review of the award process occurs.
