*****FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE*****
Subject: PICKET ON MEDICAL ETHICS
Contact: Lila Cuajunco
Phone: (310) 324-2751
On Good Friday picketers will stand near the Harbor UCLA Hospital to
protest a proposed change in federal regulations. Opponents to the
change say that it will violate the freedom of conscience of health care
professionals and can endanger patients.
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services wants to repeal the
so-called Freedom of Conscience clause from its regulations. The Freedom
of Conscience clause guarantees doctors and nurses the right to refuse
to do what they consider unethical.
The freedom of conscience provision prevents medical employers such as
hospitals from forcing medical professionals such as doctors and nurses
into doing something they consider unethical, such as abortions or
anything to hasten a patient's death. Now, medical employers may not
take reprisals against such medical professionals because of the freedom
of conscience regulation.
The Good Friday picketers will pass out flyers from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00
p.m. to urge support for the Freedom of Conscience clause. The flyers
will ask the public to e-mail the U.S. Department of Health and Human
Services to retain the freedom of conscience regulation and not to
repeal it.
"A doctor's conscience may be a patient's last best hope from possible
abuses," said spokesperson Lila Cuajunco, a resident of
Torrance. Cuajunco called for the South Bay picket when she heard that
Randall Terry called for nationwide pickets on Good Friday to support
the Freedom of Conscience clause.
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) invites public
comment about the proposed repeal of the Freedom of Conscience clause.

***_ Suggested Message_**:* "Please retain the freedom of
conscience regulation, and enforce the laws protecting the right of
health care providers to serve patients without violating medical ethics
or their moral or religious convictions. The government has a
responsibility to patients to ensure that the conscience rights of
health care providers are protected."

On October 7, 1571, the European Christian fleet won a monumental naval
victory over the Turks who threatened invasion. The Turks had a distinct
material advantage--- the finest naval fleet on Earth against a pitiful
alliance of Catholics. But the Catholics had the greatest advantage of
all--- the Holy Rosary.
Pope St. Pius V called for all of Europe to pray the Rosary for victory.
And when the Catholics, against all natural odds, surprised the world
with a victory, October 7 became a feast day of the Church, eventually
being called "Our Lady of the Rosary."
Today, we are up against a similar fate. We have a government in
America, the most powerful country in the world, which openly promotes
the murder of unborn babies. We have a president who holds the most
extreme views on abortion in the history of our country. With each
passing bill, more and more pro-life rights are being stripped away, and
our culture is being more firmly entrenched in death.
What we fail to realize is that our ragtag, pitiful alliance does indeed
have a distinct advantage through prayer, especially through our Lady's
intercession.

On the Feast of Pentecost- May 31, 2009, please join me in offering a
rosary for the conversion of pro-abortion legislators in our country,
especially our president. Remember that Pentecost is the coming of the
Holy Spirit upon the Church; may He give us the courage to stand for
what is right in the face of enormous opposition.
Our goal is to have ONE MILLION ROSARIES offered on May 31! Imagine the
amount of grace that will be available to our country. Please pass the
message along to everyone you know.
