Oklahoma Lawmakers Will Vote on Handful of Pro-Life Abortion Bills This
Week*
*Oklahoma City, OK (LifeNews.com) -- *Lawmakers in the Oklahoma
legislature will vote on a handful of pro-life bills this week and a
leading pro-life group there is asking for pro-life advocates to make
calls and send emails in support. While the House will vote on four
different bills, the Senate will consider a pro-life conscience clause.
Members of the Oklahoma Senate will vote this week on Senator Todd
Lamb's measure, SB 1878, the Freedom of Conscience Act.
It would protect health care professionals' right to refuse to
participate in the taking of an innocent human life such as abortion or
euthanasia.
On the House side, legislators will vote on HB 3144, by Rep. Lisa Billy,
which requires abortion practitioners to offer women a chance to see an
ultrasound before the abortion and HB 3059, by Rep. Rebecca Hamilton,
which prevents forcing or coercing a woman into having an abortion.
They will also vote on HB 2771, by Rep. Pam Peterson, the House version
of the conscience clause legislation in the Senate; and HB 2181
<http://www.lifenews.com/state2926.html>, by Rep. Skye McNiel, which
would require abortion practitioners to follow the guidelines the FDA
has put forward on the dangerous RU 486 abortion drug.
Tony Lauinger, the chairman of Oklahomans for Life, told LifeNews.com he
hopes pro-life advocates in the state will take action immediately to
let their legislators know they support the bills.
"It is urgent that senators hear at once from their pro-life
constituents," he said.
"In addition, please contact your state representative in the Oklahoma
House and request support for the four pro-life bills that will be voted
on this week," he added.
Lauinger also told LifeNews.com that HB 2814, by Rep. Dan Sullivan,
which helps promote a respect for life of babies with physical or mental
disabilities, received approval from the Oklahoma House on March 6.
