South Dakota Abortion Clinic Appears Closed, Despite Planned
      Parenthood Denial

http://www.ewtn.com/vnews/getstory.asp?number=90127

Sioux Falls, Jul 24, 2008 (CNA).- During what one pro-life advocate
called "a great week in South Dakota for unborn children," a Planned
Parenthood abortion clinic in Sioux Falls, South Dakota has apparently
closed. The abortion provider on the other hand, disputes the alleged
closure.

Local pro-lifers believe that the clinic has closed its doors because it
refuses to comply with a state informed consent law upheld by the Eighth
Circuit Court of Appeals last month.

The South Dakota law requires any physician who performs an abortion to
obtain "voluntary and informed written consent" from a woman seeking an
abortion, except in cases of medical emergency. The woman must also be
provided with information about the health risks and legal consequences
of the procedure.

The information the woman must be provided includes the knowledge "that
the abortion will terminate the life of a whole, separate, unique,
living human being." She must also be told that she "has an existing
relationship with that unborn human being and that the relationship
enjoys protection under the United States Constitution and under the
laws of South Dakota." Further, she must be informed "that by having an
abortion, her existing relationship and her existing constitutional
rights with regards to that relationship will be terminated."

The state law went into effect on Saturday after an attempted injunction
filed by Planned Parenthood was rejected on July 17. A spokesman for
pro-life protest groups outside the Sioux Falls Planned Parenthood
location said that even though women who had apparently scheduled
appointments appeared at the clinic, no abortionists arrived.

"I think Planned Parenthood cannot figure out a way not to comply with
the law," said Dr. Allan Unruh, a leader in the state's Vote Yes for
Life campaign, WorldNetDaily reports.

We don't know if they will open again," he said. "Personally, I don't
think they are going to find any abortionists who want to take the risk
of losing their license."

Leslee Unruh, the Founder of the Alpha Center Pregnancy Center in Sioux
Falls, on Thursday told CNA that the abortion clinic continues to be
closed. She noted that pro-life counselors have talked with several of
the clinic clients scheduled to have abortions this week.

"One for sure has changed her mind and is going to have the child," said
Unruh, who has advocated on behalf of the informed consent legislation.

"It's historical, it's wonderful what is happening. We're hoping the
other states will follow our lead and put the same laws in through their
legislatures that can also shut down abortion clinics this way," she
continued. "It's a great week in South Dakota for unborn children."

However, Kathi Di Nicola, a Planned Parenthood spokesperson based out of
Minnesota, flatly denied that the clinic was closed.

"That is absolutely false. We are open and committed to providing for
women's health services in South Dakota," she said.

When asked whether abortion services were still be provided at the Souix
Falls clinic, Di Nicola responded affirmatively.

*FACE PAINTING, MAGIC SHOWS AND BIRTH CONTROL: PLANNED PARENTHOOD
INFILTRATES CHILDREN'S EVENT*

*VALLEJO, CA (28 July 2008)* -- In its latest venture in marketing sex
to children, Planned Parenthood, the nation's largest abortion chain,
will pass out birth control and sexually transmitted disease materials
at "Vallejo Celebrates Youth," a children's health and wellness event in
Vallejo, California Aug. 2.

The event, sponsored by the Greater Vallejo Recreational District will
feature face painting, a magic show; and booths on childhood obesity,
literacy, oral hygiene, second-hand smoke and birth control.

"By its presence at this event, Planned Parenthood is providing even
more evidence that it is out to get your kids," said Marie Hahnenberg, a
researcher with American Life League. "Last year, it received over $356
million in clinic income, and now it's out to make even more money by
getting kids hooked on sex so it can get more customers -- through its
pornographic teen web sites, passing out sex-saturated reading materials
or giving condoms to elementary students."

Kaiser Permanante, a healthcare group known for its support of Planned
Parenthood's radical agenda, will also participate in this event,
scheduled from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Children's Wonderland
playground in Vallejo.

"We encourage people across the country, especially those in the Vallejo
area, to call Shane McAffee at the Greater Vallejo Recreation District
at 707-648-4603 or e-mail him at smcaffee at gvrd.org

Hahnenberg said, "and demand he reverse his decision to allow Planned
Parenthood's participation in this children's event."

American Life League was cofounded in 1979 by Judie Brown. It is the
largest grassroots Catholic pro-life organization in the United States
and is committed to the protection of all innocent human beings from the
moment of creation to natural death. For more information or media

*Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) --* Poor women and children need food,
health care and education, but the Women, Infants and Children (WIC)
program is coming under fire for giving them abortions instead. The
program's web site features a link to Planned Parenthood, the business
that does about 25 percent of U.S. abortions.

Pro-life blogger Dawn Eden, author of The Thrill of the Chaste, found
the link at the USDA's WIC Learning Center, the official web site for
the federal government's program.

"That's because a hefty chunk of the $5 billion in taxpayer funds for
the program designed to help feed and provide health care for low-income
pregnant women, new moms, and young children go to [the abortion
business]," Eden explains.

Eden says the link provides more evidence of how Planned Parenthood
targets blacks and Hispanics.

"Considering that some 61 percent of WIC recipients are nonwhites, the
government's efforts to steer them towards Planned Parenthood dovetails
neatly with the nation's No. 1 abortion provider's efforts to prevent
births in the black and Latino communities," she says.

The money Planned Parenthood receives from WIC doesn't pay for abortions
directly but presents issues by freeing up Planned Parenthood funds it
would normally use for promoting abortions.

LifeNews.com sent various WIC officials emails request comment for this
story and has not received a reply.

Tony Perkins, the head of the Family Research Council isn't pleased
about the web link either.

"Obviously this is just one of the ways that the government is secretly
subsidizing Planned Parenthood, which made a tidy $115 million profit
last year and is now seeking to open 'upscale' shopping mall clinics,"
he told LifeNews.com.

"Unfortunately, the organization's overhead--also fattened by taxpayer
money--serves its Action Fund, which is spending millions to elect
candidates like Barack Obama, the most radical pro-abortion candidate
for president in American history."

*Planned Parenthood's Latest Outrage*

Who is Planned Parenthood's new spokesman? Planned Parenthood attempts
to use sick humor to normalize sexual behavior.
