**Pro-life pediatrician laments lack of support from like-minded people
for pro-life health professionals*
Ohio Health is the parent of many health facilities in this [Columbus,
OH] area: Riverside, Grant, Doctors, this one you mention, etc. There
are immoral procedures done in Ohio Health facilities. There are the
same immoral things being done in the Mt. Camel group of hospitals
(MCMC, MCE, and MC/SA) as well as in their affiliates and associates.
Let's not forget that in most hospitals, "the end of life" is often
managed in an appallingly immoral manner. Lots of patients aren't
receiving food and water and are being denied basic treatment. These
cases won't come to light because the family, the medical facilities,
the professionals, and sometimes even the patients themselves are in
agreement that their deaths should be hastened by measures that are not
moral. Unless the family and/or the patient contests the culture of
death, there will be no issue and such cases never come out in public.
All that being said, most of the public (including the Catholic
population) seem care only a little [if at all] that these immoral
things are going on daily in hospitals and physicians offices, etc. I
say this because, when some of us Catholic physicians have raised these
issues, we have [few or] no allies amongst the patients and consumers,
both Catholic and non-Catholic. The consumers of any service or product
have a lot of influence on what the providers of those services and
products do. Most of the public is content to receive their medical care
from facilities and providers that are most convenient, nearest to their
home, etc. Some people even make the gender or the age of a physician
more important in their choice of medical care rather than whether or
not the physicians are actually abiding by God's commandments in their
practices. For the most part the medical profession and facilities like
hospitals and pharmacies have been totally sold out to the culture of
death. Most patients never ask about whether a facility or a medical
practice provides contraception, abortion, euthanasia, or abortion
referrals and contraception to teenagers [even without parental knowledge].
I am a medical consultant to the Terri Schindler Schiavo Foundation in
Florida. It was founded and is operated by Terri's sister, brother, and
parents. They call me when they have a hard case and sometimes I speak
to a family member whose loved on is or has been the victim of the
culture of death. >From those encounters with those patients and their
families I have learned that few people ever give much thought about the
culture of death vis-à-vis the medical profession until they find
themselves embroiled in a heartbreaking situation over a loved one. The
most recent one was a case of a patient in her 30's whose life was being
ended early to obtain organs for transplant. Unfortunately, we got the
case on the day that the patient was scheduled to be killed and so we
lost that battle. The hospital which is in a distant state had all of
its doctors, nurses, and lawyers arrayed against the patient's family
and it was easy for them to take the life of that family's loved one.
This sad situation could happen to anyone. You might think you have your
bases covered in one part of the country but what happens if you or a
loved one are in need of critical medical care in another state, perhaps
even in this hospital that took this patient's life?
My only plea to this [online chat] group would be that all of us work
together to build up a culture of life NOW. Let's not all wait until we
are standing at the side of a spouse, a child, a sister, a brother, or a
friend whose life is endangered by the culture of death in an ICU,
emergency department, physician's office, or clinic. The people I have
dealt with in these heartbreaking situations probably never thought
they'd be in that position either. I hope that no one reading this need
ever endure what some of the people I have met through Terri's
Foundation have had to endure. However, the chances are that someone
reading this will indeed experience an attack on a loved one engineered
by the culture of death. Let's not all wait until it's too late. On an
optimistic and hopeful note, I have to say that even if this small group
e-mail list would take some positive practical action, things might
begin to change.
Whether or not we boycott hospitals, doctors, pharmacies, etc., we need
to all do something to reverse the devil's gains. The culture of death
is the thing that has our nation and indeed all the world in its
powerful grip. Praying and the sacraments are essential first steps but
we all need to face up to it, admit there are serious problems, and take
serious action.

I have been asked by a person not from this area if OhioHealth is a fit
employer for a Catholic. The person, responding to an opening at
Victorian Village Health Center, is wondering if they do abortions.
Please respond off-list.
Thank you.
