ACTION NEEDED!
*
*SAMPLE LETTER:*
Dear Senator N:
I am writing to ask you to support SB1255, a bill defending the right of
conscience for health care professionals. The right of conscience is
one of the fundamental freedoms that our great nation was built on and
recent debate has threatened to eliminate these protections for the sake
of supporting highly divisive political agendas on controversial issues.
Regardless of an individual's position on issues such as abortion, the
so-called "morning after pill" and other forms of so-called
"contraception", health care professionals including pharmacists,
physicians, and other health care providers need to have the freedom to
not be forced to act in ways they believe unethical, immoral or violate
their sincerely held religious convictions.
In addition to the foundations of our nation, this right is well
supported by previous federal legislation and by numerous, consistent
and precedentive decisions in the courts. Pennsylvania needs to enact
similar legislation that protects individuals who follow their
consciences from being subject to discrimination, harrassment,
intimidation and possible loss of employment.
I appreciate your consideration and urge you to support SB1255. Please
let me know how you plan to act on this bill.
Signed,
Your name

Good afternoon!
I am the public affairs director for the Pro-Life Coalition of PA. We
have introduced a conscience clause bill in the PA Senate, and I am
working to have the Senators hear from health care professionals in
support of the bill.
Here is the link to the bill for PFLI members and readers:
http://www.legis.state.pa.us/CFDOCS/Legis/PN/Public/btCheck.cfm?txtType=PDF&sessYr=2007&sessInd=0&billBody=S&billTyp=B&billNbr=1255&pn=1777
<http://www.legis.state.pa.us/CFDOCS/Legis/PN/Public/btCheck.cfm?txtType=PDF&sessYr=2007&sessInd=0&billBody=S&billTyp=B&billNbr=1255&pn=1777>
I could use the letters now. I have attached the talking points memo we
are currently using with the Senators.
It would be best if the letters are not from an organization, but from
each individual person.
The letters should go to the person's own senator, with a copy to Sen.
Eichelberger as prime sponsor, and Senator Erickson as chairman of the
committee overseeing the bill right now. To find a senator, go to:
http://www.legis.state.pa.us/cfdocs/legis/home/findyourlegislator/find_zip_action.cfm
They can be e-mailed to all senators. I would like to be copied on the
e-mails so I know what is going on when I meet with the senators.
Thanks. God bless you today.
